Charlotte... Small wonder this exhibit came about! Charlotte was still running up and down a London street ( twice) to catch a glimpse of the old Duke in 1850. It was only when Richmond told her the Duke had been in his studio the day before that she became animated enough for him to catch her portrait... Waterloo was huge for any English person living though that time and even for those just born then like the Brontë children, who could not personally remember the event .... no matter, its echo was enormous .
