Branwell (right) was dismissed as soon as the affair was discovered, and was perhaps even paid to keep his silence. Mrs. Robinson abandoned Branwell when it mattered most, and when her husband died a short while later she rejected Branwell’s hopeful advances.

What I can't figure out is, was the affair started right after Bramwell came to Thorpe Green? Or did it start after he was there for a time? I just can't see him keeping a secret and being sufficiently discreet about it for three years! That was not his nature. I wonder if it stated after he had been there for awhile.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt has to be said, that whoever came up the story of Mr. R's will, forbidding Mrs R to see Bramwell or be cut off and the story of her supposed mental collapse, knew Patrick Bramwell Brontë very well and knew how he would respond to stories that so closely resembled his own juvenile writings.
