This is a blog about the Bronte Sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne. And their father Patrick, their mother Maria and their brother Branwell. About their pets, their friends, the parsonage (their house), Haworth the town in which they lived, the moors they loved so much, the Victorian era in which they lived.
Of course this is a very interesting post for me as I will be starting to paint Charlotte's picture within a couple of months myself as well as her husband, Arthur Bell Nicholls in a portait pair
I'm very much looking forward to painting Charlotte's picture. I think the best example we have is the original George Richmond 1850 portait( not the many later altered copies) and one needs to study that carefully as well as the one photo we have of her.
It is said Richmond flattered Charlotte. Well that was his stock and trade after all ...but one just takes that in account. Imo he put everything there for us to find if we look
Mine will be in acrylic...I salute you for doing one in watercolour! Much harder imo!
I'm finishing my portait of Tsar Nicholas II and his son Alexis from 1916. When that is completed, I will start three paintings at once . Charlotte , Arthur and Patrick
But when they will be finished I have no idea. I thought I would have completed my current painting long ago...but the paintings seem to demand a richness that only time can bestow.
I like that picture too , it is a remarkable achievement ...but to me Charlotte looks a bit too old in it...I side with Tabby on that. lol
Howver if one sees that picture on top of the post as a visual record of the pain Charlotte endured rather than just of her face...well that would be interesting thought indeed
But speaking of age , painting Charlotte will be very interesting because she contained within herself so may aspects. There was flinty, old as the hills part and a part ever young and ardent...one must somehow bring both to a picture
A good portait is really footage. The mind of the viewer starts the film rolling.

I wish us both luck! :)
Yes, good luck Anne!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the portrait most above.
It is based on the Richmond portrait, but is more power full.
When your portrait is ready, i will post it here...
VerwijderenI would be honored of course, thank you
