Anne’s unfinished ‘Portrait of a girl with a dog’

From the Treasure Trove: Anne’s unfinished ‘Portrait of a girl with a dog’. Could this be a picture of Flossy, the spaniel given to Anne by her employers the Robinsons in 1843?

  1. I always loved this picture, thanks for posting!

Does the drawing have a date? It could also be Flossy's mother or father owned by the Robinsons or a neighbor . I wonder if Anne was gifted a puppy after admiring its parent .Those puppies had to come from somewhere!

Others speculate Flossy was one of the Robinson's girls dog and they gave him to Anne. Would be great to know. I would think Flossy as a purchase would be beyond Anne's means .
    This was nice gift indeed.

Aunt Branwell, not known for her love of the four legged among God's creatures, would, I believe, look more kindly on such a show of favor than she would on a dog usually.

Emily beat Keeper for lying on the beds and giving Aunt something to complain about .
You had to watch Aunt when it came to animals. You could go off to Brussels and the next thing you know your geese go missing
